First time I buy something from Schott. I love the jacket. Really well made. I'm 6,6 tall and weight 214 lb. The 44L fits perfect (body and sleeves). I have one from Private White and other from Billy Reid and this one fits me better.

It looks fantastic but feels lighter than the exact one I got from you all 25 years ago. In that time I think the materials have updated . I do like the feel of the heavier jacket from before, but the lines on this new one look a bit more aesthetic and sleek.Another winner, thank you.

I rarely leave feedback but this thing is totally awesome. Heavy weight and very substantial. I'm very impressed. Exactly what I wanted.

This is just a seriously well made coat that uses quality materials. I'm seriously impressed at the value for $. Wool is stiff out of the box, but it will break with use. It, however, is three Cs thiccc, made to take an absolute beating keep you *warm*, and insulated from the conditions.

Stitching is robust, and then reinforced for extra durability. Buttons are double stitched, so them falling off (as happens on a lot of peacoats, or double breasted coats/jackets in general) looks like it won't be an issue for a longgggg time. Can be dressed up or down, and will for sure look as great over a grey suit as it does over the jeans and sweater I'm wearing.

Got it on a rainy, windy, and borderline below freezing day, and immediately went for a walk to test it. Performed amazingly. Warm and toasty af inside, with zero wind penetration. Size estimator that was on the website was bang on. Do not deviate from it. Zero need to downsize, if you'd like to still be able to fit a sweater underneath and maintain range of motion. If you want a more tailored fit, buy the slim, but I'd question the ability to layer with it (i.e. only buy the slim if you live a bit more south, or don't mind freezing your dick off in -30C Canadian winters from lack of layering).

Only wish I have is for a "short" option as the 46" regular size I purchased will require some tailoring to bring up the sleeves, and the length, by about 1.5-2 inches each for a fully proper fit on my 5'9"/185 frame. I can definitely understand why people refer to this as a "heirloom" piece, though. It's easy to see that this thing is built like a frickin' dreadnought, and that it will only get better with age and wear. If you are waffling between something a little less expensive (say, the LL Bean Peacoat), then do yourself a favour: Save your pennies, and wait to buy this one.

Warm & Look Good

If you’re on the fence about buying this coat…just get it. It’s great for temperatures down to the fahrenheit teens, the collar is tall and blocks the wind, it looks awesome, and it’s really well made. By far my favorite coat; I’m wearing the heck out of it.

For sizing, trust the digital tailor. It was spot on for being roomy enough to comfortably layer, and it looks just right for a t-shirt underneath. It was very accurate.

One serious coat

After several years of waiting for Schott to put these coats on sale, I finally gave in and bought one at full price about two months ago. This is a good example of a clothing item being worth paying full price. I've previously owned peacoats from J.Crew and Spier & Mackay, and this peacoat is much better. It is an excellent blend of function and style.

Although this isn't the "slim fit" version of this coat, it isn't a loose, boxy fit. I'm 5'9", about 165 lbs, and Schott recommended that I buy a size 38. It has a slight hourglass shape and is fairly form-fitting. So, if you want some extra room such as to wear it over a suit or additional thick layers, I recommend going a size up. The sleeves were a little too baggy and long, so I took the coat to the tailor to get that corrected.

The coat can be buttoned on either side. Also, the large collar can be buttoned up around your head for using in inclement weather which is very useful. There is no interior button to secure the inside flap of the double-breasted front, but it doesn't seem like a big deal. I haven't had any trouble with the inside flap sagging. The hand warmer front pockets provide some extra depth to carry items, such as your phone or keys. There are also two large interior pockets.

The coat is very warm. The heavy material (80% wool/20% synthetic) plus the quilted interior lining in the torso and sleeves provides heavy insulation. I wore this coat with only a shirt and thin sweater underneath in 16F and I was not cold. In fact, this coat is so warm that I don't recommend wearing it in temperatures over about 45F or you'll probably be too hot.

The material is quite heavy and stiff which makes it difficult to raise your arms above shoulder level. So, I don't think it's a good coat for certain activities like long-distance driving. I think it's more of a "wearing-around-town" kind of coat, which it is very suited for. Because it is double-breasted, it gives you more "presence" and you'll notice more people looking at you as a result.

Outstanding

This is the 3rd 740N I’ve had over 12 years. One of them was 100% wool and didn’t have the same longevity -I am frequently outdoors- so I was pleased to see a nylon mix again like the first one I had which lasted 8 years. I ordered the most recent direct from schott since they now want 800 GBP for them in London. Even with the import duty it is a significantly better deal to go direct to Schott. When the coat arrived in England 2 working days later I was extremely surprised. It would have taken longer than that to have one mailed within the UK. Don’t mess around with imitations get a 740N. The only thing that comes close is Saint James Gallion and having owned one of those for a few years I can tell you the 740N is better made. Lastly Jerri R at Schott was super helpful. Rated.

New Coat

Great coat. I was replacing a vintage surplus pea coat which is simply not up to everyday wear to work anymore, and this coat is the closest...and improved...of what I found. I am 6'1", about 240 lbs, 46 chest. most everything I would normally take a long, but Schotts sizing tool said 46, so that is what I ordered, and it is perfect. arms hang just below the wrist, which is perfect. The full length quilting I was leery of at first, but it doesnt add any bulk, and our recent below zero days the coat still kept me comfortable here in Upstate NY. Not a day goes by I dont get compliments from my patients (who are Veterans ). Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

New Pea. Coat

First, I returned my first coat as I picked the incorrect size. They staff was very helpful in selecting the correct size.

My return was processed very promptly.

I received my new coat in time for some 10 degree Chicago winter weather. The coat handled it well! I am glad I purchased this coat.

Classic Pea Coat

I recently decided to replace my very aged surplus pea coat, and decided to go with a Schott.
I am 6'1", about 245 lbs. with a 46 " chest. I was thinking the 46 L. Using their sizer tool, it said 46. Okay, we will see. I ordered on Sunday, received it on Tuesday! And the size is perfect, dead on, Absolutely no need for the long. Beautiful coat.

Great Looking Coat

Live on the San Fran peninsula so I wear it over a t shirt. Dips to freezing only a few mornings, otherwise still windy and cool close to SF Bay. Perfect!!

Awesome Coat

Hope this review helps someone out. Key takeaways on sizing:
- 5'6 155lbs, 42in chest, 18in shoulder
- Sizing calculator said get a 42. Reviews said size down 1 size to 40
- Tried on instore a 36 (all they had) too tight. Ordered a 40, too big
- Exchanged for 38....perfect.
- 38 sleeves are a tad too long by may be 1/4 in. The sleeves sit between my wrist and thumb knuckle (knuckle near thmbnail)
- I had to go down 2 sizes
For the coat itself:
- Feels like a grandfathers warm hug
- Navy color is what I wanted. Very dark/midnight blue, almost black
- Excellent fit, finish, and materials. Feels great on the outside and inside
- Great styling for jeans and sneakers, boots and heritage wear, or slacks and dress shoes

25+ years later.

I bought navy surplus pea coat in high school. It wore out early in college, so I bought a Schott. I am now 47. I am still wearing that coat. It's been to 3 continents. It's kept me warm in Norway in January, and San Francisco in August. It fits true to size.

Finally got my Pea Coat

Came on schedule. I used to wear a P-coat when it was the rage in the early 70's. Been missing it ever since. Man! This thing is warm and looks nice! Since it's brand new, it is a little stiff and will require a breaking-in time. Took a walk in Oregon fog and it felt a warm cocoon! Very pleased so far!

740N in Dark Navy is a winner

I ordered this jacket in size 38 as everyone tells me to size down on the reviews. Turns out it was too tight especially if I layered with a sports coat underneath. I exchanged it for a 40 and it's much better. I like the style and color. The dark navy does look almost black so be mindful of that upon ordering.

Definitely need to cross button the flaps for those colder winter days or wear a scarf since cold air does come to the chest area. I think its a solid dressy coat which I hope will last me many cold NJ winters.

Just what I was looking for

I originally wanted the black one but my only option was to pre order. After talking to customer service I was assured that the navy color was pretty much black and it really is. The fit was perfect and I did not size down like a lot of reviews say to do.

I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Satisfied Customer

Recently purchased the 740N peacoat. Received it a couple of days later, was able to monitor the order each step of the way. The quality of the coat is exactly as advertised and the fit was true to size. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Beautiful Coat

The nicest coat I have ever owned. It is very well made of high quality materials. I did have to have the sleeves altered. I am only 5' 5" tall and the sleeves were too long. I like the fact that I can wear it with dress or casual wear.. It is good to know that there are still companies out there making high quality products in the USA. It would be nice if they made it in a short model instead of just regular and tall. This is a coat that will last a life time and can be handed down to the next generation.

This is the one.

If you’re searching for pea coats, this is the one. It’s incredibly warm and sturdy, and looks incredible. I wore it out of the box on a 20F windy day, and it kept me perfectly warm.

Recommend you size down if you’d like a slightly slimmer fit. I’m 5’10”, 175 with an athletic build. My chest measured about 40-41”, and I sized down to a 38. It fits perfectly.

Warm and classy … Loving it!

Amazing warmth great wool function. Fits well into my classic wardrobe!!

Beware the classic navy color looks black half the time.
1 drawback from the classic design is the winter resistance is slightly weak.

Loved seeing this coat around youtube especially praises from @ironsnail.. Incredible warmth amazing wool function and feel. A great fit into a classic mens wear wardrobe coz the silhouette looks tailored!

1 drawback to sticking with the original design is its not great at stopping rough wind !

Great Coat!

This is my second Schott pea coat. I had a 740c for almost 20 years. Not a loose thread or button ever. Unfortunately, my more recent dad bod is not a good fit for the 740C. I gave that one to my 21 year old son and he loves it. I bought a 740 and so far so good. Warm and well constructed. I expect decades of wear.
