What an incredible jacket. Indeed it exceeded my expectations. The waxy leather has a nice hand to it, it is a good weight, and in the luggage colourway I look forward to it aging and conforming to my physique and how I live. Given that I wear a 46 in the 618 I was not sure of sizing as suggested by the fit tool on the site, but it is spot on. I like the western styling and will likely never remove the mouton collar. The leather, did I mention the leather, it has such a nice soft feel to it. If you are on the fence, hop off and get this jacket. I am 63, 5’9”, 185# and the Large is a trim fit with enough ease for comfort. It is suitable for a man of any age.

    Amazing!

Couldn’t have found a better jacket. Size guide was spot on. Fit and quality are outstanding. Glad I chose Schott NYC for my first ever leather jacket.

    It’s perfect

I’ve had many leather jackets, but have always been looking for the one to keep for decades: I think I’ve found it. Perfect all around: size, color, timeless style, fit (I’m 5’9” 160lb athletic slim, got size S that fits nicely over a Tee and with a sweater as well). Although I’m a rider, I won’t wear it on a bike as I don’t want to ruin it if a fall off, it’s that nice, but I’ll wear the heck out of it as it gets a little colder otherwise.

    It’s perfect

I’ve been through many leather jackets, searching for the perfect one that instantly feels right and stays right for a long time. I’m certain I’ve found the one!

I’ve got the luggage color, which is unusual for me as I always go with black, glad I did, awesome color. Got size S, I’m 5’9 at about 155 lb athletic slim - it fits perfect over a Tee and even with a sweater/scarf.

    Perfect for the maturing rockabilly!

I bought this jacket a few months ago from an Italian outlet as buying direct from Schott and getting it shipped to Ireland always results in a sting in the tail from everyone's favourite customs agency. I've always bought direct from Schott so I speak facts! In the past I've always gone for the classic Perfecto biker jackets but as I'm getting older I still wanted something that oozes 1950s/Western combined so this hidden gem hits the target. I don't ride a bike - I just like to look cool hahaha. My Perfecto 613S has been retired and this jacket is its successor! It's already taking on a gorgeous patina on the sleeves and it smells gorgeous too. A perfect wardrobe staple for a rockabilly guy who left his 20s behind a long time ago.

Liked it so much that I bought it in BLACK!

My previous review is below. I liked this 596 jacket so much that I bought it in black. Now I have two - but pulling the collar off the brown on means I can pretend it’s a totally different jacket style. I like the cut and design of this 596 and I struggled with finding the right Perfecto. I tried and sent back a couple of them - the PER62 and the 613S. I finally decided to switch direction and I am happy I did. The 596 looks less “biker” - which is okay since I don’t ride! Thanks to Jerri and everyone at Schott for helping with my returns and orders. I now have 13 Schott leather jackets… yep, 13! And a bunch of sweaters, CPO shirts, other jackets, etc. Go SCHOTT Go!

    Truly a Masterpiece

I just unpacked my 596 Rancher Jacket in the luggage colour. It blew me away. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, immaculate finish and attention to detail. From the stunning soft, heavy and beautifully textured leather to the lining and well thought out transitions between the materials. One can see, the wealth of knowledge, experience and love which went into this Masterpiece. I am an Architect working with an award winning team, and I am not easily impressed, but this jacket is perfect.
I always wanted to own a jacket like this. I researched and learned about legendary Schott. However, this jacket exceed my expectations,. Well done, bravo! This is already my favourite and probably will always be, till it will pass on to my son. Thank you!

    Nice Jacket

This is a really nice jacket. The leather quality of the cowhide is great and the zipper/snaps all seem really sturdy and high quality. The look of it with and without the sheep collar is great. I am very happy with my purchase.

I ordered the brown "luggage" color in a size S. I am 6 ft tall and 175 lbs with a slim athletic build. The size small fits me perfectly with a somewhat slim fit, but still comfortable and easy to move which is exactly what I was looking for.

I ordered a medium to try as well but returned it. It was too big for me but I could see it fitting if the wearer had a stockier build through the chest and shoulders.

    Very Nice!

Cool jacket. Something different than the Perfecto asymmetrical motorcycle jacket that Schott is best known for. This looks nice with or without the collar on. The brown IS the better color in this jacket, in my opinion and that’s what I bought. A keeper for sure. Only wish is that it was a bit longer. But otherwise it’s great. For reference, I’m 6 ft tall, 205 lbs, wear a 44L suit / sport coat.

    Amazing Western Piece

This is a well constructed, stylish addition to my wardrobe. It absolutely pops with the right Stetson hat and a pair of boots. I have several Schott jackets and this one is my favorite! Thanks Schott for the Southern flair! BTW 6’ 185# and L fits great.

    Heirloom Piece

Ever purchase something that so greatly exceeds your expectations it instantly becomes one of your top 5 favorite things you can not live without?

I could probably write a small book about this jacket but I'll keep this review brief; the Schott 596 "Rancher" has to be the best kept secret of the Schott line-up. It is built with the classic Schott quality we all expect and demand from the price point, yes, but this is truly an heirloom piece. I expect it to last at least my lifetime, and my son will probably get a few decades out of it as well (and he is 5 currently).

The jacket is heavy like a cowhide jacket should be, but not to the point it weights you down. The leather is stiff but supple and should break in with a fantastic patina over time. I love the flannel lining of the interior of the jacket, which feels like your favorite shirt or blanket.

The sheep collar is a big reason I chose this jacket, and why I suspect most people are looking at this particular style. It's absolutely wonderful- incredibly warm, hugging the back and side of your neck without being restrictive. It pops off easily with 6 snaps, and I was beyond impressed that the entire removeable collar is also top grain leather, even the inside, and the snap attachment points.

With the sheep collar removed this jacket has an entirely different look, making it much more "dressy" like a delivery jacket. Truly two jackets in one. My only gripe here is the snap for the inside center of the collar leaves an exposed metal button on the inside of the jacket that touches the back of my neck. On a cold morning I can feel it. Would be nice if there was a piece of the flannel lining that covered this, but ultimately it is not a big deal.

For fit, I'm 6'6" 215lbs athletic taper, and the Large fits me exceptionally well, if not a little baggy in the belly but great around the chest. For someone of my height, the Schott "fit finder" will tell me nothing fits, but I found this to be in the range of acceptable. The length hits right about my hips but the sleeves are a touch short when I reach my arms, like driving, for example. This is pretty common for me so something I am used to. I pulled in the side buckles to the tightest setting to shore up the bagginess of the belly and it fits like a nice tailored jacket without being restrictive.

I was on the fence about this jacket for a while but ultimately very happy I pulled the trigger. Also, incredibly fast shipping- ordered on a Monday and received in Colorado on a Thursday! Thank you, Schott!

This Jacket is a Statement Piece!

Quality, Fit and Style! I cannot say how much I love this jacket. Perfect for the cool fall outings, and great to move into spring with the removable collar.

I bought this jacket while on Sale, great value.
It is quite a head turner. Love the removable sheepskin collar.
When it’s removed it gives the jacket a whole other look. The leather on this jacket is amazing, soft but very strong, it feels different than my 3 other Schott jackets.
I went by the fit guide and chose a Large even though it recommended an XL.
    I’m 5”9
    210lb
    44” chest
It fits good, an XL would have given me more room to layer but, I can still wear a button up shirt and tee underneath.
Side pulls are a nice touch too.
Maybe Schott can answer this question.
My label says Perfecto????? Has picture of a bull with horns? What leather is this jacket? I know it says cowhide on the site, but this label is throwing me off.
I thought these were known as Rancher.
Doesn’t take away from the jacket, it’s fantastically well made. Heavy, great lining too. Can’t believe there’s not more reviews on this. I bought the Luggage colour and it’s quite a bit more dark than in the pictures, which I like.
Great jacket, happy out from Irish customer.

    Rancher Jacket

Great quality jacket, well made. I followed the sizing chart and the result was a spot on fit seeing that I was going after a more relaxed size. Highly recommend Schott. I have two of their jackets and the quality is superb. The timeliness of the order was extremely good as well.

    A Must Have

One of my favorite leather jackets of all time. It's heavy and warm, but the leather is soft and feels like it's been hanging in your closet for 15 years. The collar easily snaps off and gives you a completely different look, so really like having two jackets in one!

    Awesome Jacket

The leather on this jacket is beautiful. It looks rugged with almost a pebbled-like texture but when you touch it, you notice how soft the leather is which makes the jacket super easy to move in. The stitching work on the jacket is also impressive, my favorite details are the cuff stitching around the wrists and over the back of the shoulders where it kind of V’s in a little. The flannel liner is warm but not overly warm to where you’re uncomfortable wearing the jacket indoors but kept me warm in 30 degree weather. The shearling collar snaps off so you can wear it in seasons other than winter too! Side note: I was unsure of the front zipper pockets over the chest but I promise they are much cooler looking in person! Don’t hesitate, buy!

    Well built quality jacket

Firstly, i have never worn a cow hide jacket. The first thing that struck me about this jacket was its weight, almost 6 lbs. i had to return the jacket the first time because the texture of the leather was not the same throughout the jacket. Directions for the return were very easy. Told them what was wrong with the jacket and the new jacket came exactly how i asked for, uniformed texture and color.

After wearing the jacket for almost a week, i am impressed, the built quality is great, except some minor issues. The vintage look of this leather jacket is unique. Although i would have liked the sleeves to be a little more tight, but not a big issue. The jacket comes a little below my waist, which i like.

Over all a great jacket, which is expected at this price range. Has a very masculine impression, the sheep collar adds to its rough looks. Great jacket. I will surely come back to Schott for my next jacket. Cant beat American made...
